Frequent Questions About Orthodontics

Why do we suggest doing a check up for orthodontic treatment at age 7?

The jaw bone and teeth are at growth at this age. We could have the best analysis of the growth pattern and it is easier to manipulate the growth of the teeth and bone during mixed dentition (when primary teeth and permanent teeth appear in the mouth at the same time). Better orthodontic results could be achieved by Phase I orthodontic treatment.

Is the result permanent?

After orthodontic treatment, your teeth have the tendency to move back to the original position due to external pressure of your tongue and cheek, but this could be avoid or delayed by wearing retainer regularly and practicing exercise of OMT to strengthen your oral muscle to make the teeth to stay in the position you want.

Are all people suitable for orthodontic treatment?

It depends on the oral condition of you. If you have periodontal problems, we suggest you to receive periodontal treatment first hand and receive consultation from the dentist whether your oral condition is suitable for orthodontic treatment.

How long does it take to complete a round of orthodontic treatment?

Depends on the complexity of the teeth. The shortest time of treatment could be 1.5 year and it could be up to 3 years.

Do extraction of teeth a must for orthodontic treatment?

No, our orthodontist will clearly explain the treatment plans that are suitable for your oral condition. The pros, cons and result of the treatment will be explained and you have the right to choose the final plan.

In the first visit, we will examine your oral condition comprehensively by taking X-ray film and scanning your teeth using the iTero technology. Your scanned teeth will be displayed on screen in 3D for easier explanation.
Dentist will suggest the best options of your treatment and explain every step of your treatment so you know what to expect
With the help of the 3D imaging machine, we would simulate the final result of your orthodontic treatment.
Depending on cases, extraction of teeth may be needed prior to the start of orthodontic treatment.
For traditional braces, fixed braces will be bonded on your teeth and will be adjusted from time to time in our clinic
For Invisalign, clear attachments will be bonded on your teeth, sets of clear Invisalign will be given to you and you need to change the pairs of Invisalign according to the time set by the orthodontics
